Letšeng Geology and Resource Development for Mine Planning

Project Description

The Letšeng Diamond Mine is the lowest grade primary diamond deposit being mined globally and contains some of the world’s largest and highest value diamonds. Due to the very low grade of the various kimberlite types being mined, resource development is challenging. Traditional evaluation methods are often not feasible. Resource estimation involving extrapolation of grade and value requires an understanding of the volcanic history which is developed through systematic petrography and geological mapping. SRK has been involved in geology development and training at Letšeng for the last 8 years and is currently updating the 3D geological models and mineral resources of the Main and Satellite pipes in support of mine planning activities.
